{"id":15704,"date":"2022-05-06T12:04:34","date_gmt":"2022-05-06T19:04:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uewm.edu\/?page_id=15704"},"modified":"2022-05-18T23:31:14","modified_gmt":"2022-05-19T06:31:14","slug":"english-proficiency-requirement-for-all-programs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uewm.edu\/ch\/admissions\/english-proficiency-requirement-for-all-programs","title":{"rendered":"English Proficiency Requirement"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<h1 class=\"p1\">ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL PROGRAMS<\/h1>\n<h2><b>FOR US CITIZENS OR LAWFUL PERMANENT RESIDENTS<\/b><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>US Citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents\u00a0<\/b>whose native language is not English and prior education was not conducted in English, an English proficiency evaluation conducted by the University of East-West Medicine is required to enter MSTCM and Non-Degree programs (except Audit program) at UEWM.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\">UEWM ENGLISH PROFICIENCY EVALUATION STANDARD<\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\">University of East-West Medicine English proficiency evaluation includes three sections, which are Writing; Reading; Speaking and Listening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">All program students must pass the Section 1 evaluation before enrollment in the program. Section 2 and Section 3 must be passed before taking the clinical internship course CL3 &#8211; CL7. It\u2019s strongly recommended that each student prepares for Section 2 and Section 3 as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Writing: Submit 500 words Statement of Purpose written in English for admission.<\/li>\n<li>Speaking and Listening: Interview by UEWM. For the English program, pass this test to register for any course. For the Chinese program, pass this test to register for the clinic internship (CL3-CL7).<\/li>\n<li>Reading: Consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. Continuing students must pass the evaluation before registering for clinic internship (CL3-CL7). For the Chinese program, pass this test with a 60% or above score. For the English program, pass this test with a 75% or above score.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"p1\">Each semester will offer two times sections 2. Speaking and listening evaluation. Section 3 can be taken in the University Moodle learning management system according to student study pace. Students need to contact the clinic office in advance for the arrangement. Section 3 is a part of the clinic course CL3 entrance exam.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Retake policy: Students can retake the test if they fail. Retake fees may apply.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_btn3-container vc_btn3-inline vc_do_btn\" ><a class=\"vc_general vc_btn3 vc_btn3-size-md vc_btn3-shape-rounded vc_btn3-style-modern vc_btn3-color-blue\" href=\"https:\/\/uewm.edu\/ch\/admissions\/mstcm\/\" title=\"Master Program (MSTCM)\">Learn More About MSTCM Program Admissions Requirements<\/a><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<h2>FOR INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS\/STUDENTS<\/h2>\n<p><b>International Applicant\/Student <\/b>is an individual who:<\/p>\n<p>(1) is not a citizen or national of, or lawfully admitted for permanent residence in, the United States;<\/p>\n<p>(2) does not provide evidence from the Immigration and Naturalization Service that he or she is in the United States for other than temporary purposes with the intention of becoming a citizen of, or lawfully admitted for permanent residence in, the United States; and<\/p>\n<p>(3) is not lawfully admitted for permanent residence in American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or the Virgin Islands.<\/p>\n<p><b>International Applicants<\/b>\u00a0whose native language is not English are required to provide proof of English proficiency for admission to degree, certificate, and non-degree graduate programs. This must be demonstrated by one of the following means:<\/p>\n<h4>1.The applicant must have completed one of the following *:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">four years at a U.S. high school demonstrably delivered in English;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">at least two-years (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) of undergraduate-or graduate-level education in an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">at least two-years (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) of undergraduate-or graduate-level education demonstrably delivered in English;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">high school or two-years (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) of undergraduate- or graduate-level education in an institution in one of the following countries or territories: American Samoa; Anguilla; Antigua &amp; Barbuda;Australia; Bahamas; Barbados; Belize; Bermuda; Botswana; British Virgin Islands;Cameroon; Canada (except Quebec); Cayman Islands; Christmas Island; CookIslands; Dominica; Federated States of Micronesia; Fiji; The Gambia; Ghana;Gibraltar; Grenada; Guam; Guyana; Ireland; Isle of Man; Jamaica; Kenya; Lesotho;Liberia; Malawi; Montserrat; Namibia; New Zealand; Nigeria; Norfolk Island;Papua New Guinea; Philippines; Pitcairn Islands; Sierra Leone; Singapore; SouthAfrica; South Sudan; St. Helena; St. Kitts &amp; Nevis; St. Lucia; St. Vincent &amp; theGrenadines; Swaziland; Tanzania; Trinidad and Tobago; Turks and Caicos Islands;United Kingdom; U.S. Virgin Islands; Uganda; Zambia; Zimbabwe<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">In all cases, English must have been both the language of instruction and the language of the curriculum used.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>OR<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4>2. This may be demonstrated by one of the following means:<br \/>\n(a) The student must have completed a two-year (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) baccalaureate or graduate level, English-based education in an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. The United States Immigration and Naturalization Service requires that all international students maintain a full-time program of study (at UEWM, at least 12 units), attend classes regularly, and maintain satisfactory progress towards completion of the degree or diploma objective.<\/p>\n<p>Questions regarding visa status, accommodations, etc., should be directed to the Admissions Office.<\/p>\n<p><i>Note: All admission documents become the property of the institution and will not be returned to the student.
