The University of East-West Medicine (UEWM) is approved by the California Acupuncture Board. Graduates of the MSTCM (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Master\u00a0of\u00a0Science\u00a0in\u00a0Traditional Chinese Medicine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) degree program offered by UEWM are eligible to sit for the California Acupuncture Licensing Examination <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(CALE).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The California Acupuncture Board is a regulatory body under the California Department of Consumer Affairs. The Board\u2019s legal mandate is to regulate the practice of Asian medicine through acupuncture in California and is the sole issuer of acupuncture licenses in the state. The Board establishes and maintains entry standards of qualification and conduct within the acupuncture profession, primarily through its authority to license. In 2014, SB 1246 (Chapter 397, Statutes of 2014), was signed into law. This bill changed the acupuncture training program approval process. An approved acupuncture training program must now obtain approvals from three different agencies:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have accreditation, or in pre-accreditation, with ACAOM (now ACAHM)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be approved by the Bureau of Private and Post-Secondary Education (BPPE), and,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Received the Acupuncture Board&#8217;s approval of Curriculum.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The California Acupuncture Board is located at 1747 N. Market Blvd, suite 180, Sacramento, CA 95834; phone (916) 515-5200; fax (916) 928-2204; www.acupuncture.ca.gov<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>University of East-West Medicine and its following program are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Master of Acupuncture with a Chinese herbal medicine specialization<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The program listed above may offer courses via distance education.<\/p>\n<p>ACAHM does <u>not<\/u> accredit any programs at the undergraduate\/bachelor level.<\/p>\n<p>Accreditation status and notes may be viewed on the ACAHM Directory.<\/p>\n<p>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.acahm.org\/directory)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.acahm.org\/directory)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>ACAHM is recognized by the United States Department of Education as the specialized accreditation agency for institutions\/programs preparing acupuncture practitioners. Approval to operate means the institution is compliant with the minimum standards contained in the California Private Postsecondary Education Act of 2009 and Division 7.5 (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Private Postsecondary Education) <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of Title 5 (Education) of the California Code of Regulations (CCR). The school\u2019s designated school official (DSO) can issue a Form I-20, \u201cCertificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status\u201d to a qualified student.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>U.S. Department of Education &amp; Federal Student Aid<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Title IV of the Higher Education Act (HEA; P.L. 89-329), as amended, authorizes programs that provide financial assistance to students to attend certain institutions of higher education (IHEs). UEWM is certified to participate in Title IV by the U.S. Department of Education. UEWM, as a FSA-participating school, can administrate Direct Unsubsidized and Direct PLUS Loans under Title IV of the HEA, for the MSTCM degree program. Federal Student Aid is only available to students who are qualified.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine\u2019s (NCCAOM) mission is t<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">o assure the safety and well-being of the public and to advance the professional practice of acupuncture and Oriental medicine by establishing and promoting national evidence-based standards of competence and credentialing.
